Ferrara was the perfect setting for the EduOpen meeting held on January 30th and 31st.
During the meeting we presented some data and updates about our project: did you know that the Institutions, members of EduOpen, are 25? And that since the kick-off of 2016 we produced 276 courses, 19 pathways and 5 courseware?
In 75% of the courses, about 700 students are enrolled; course completion rates range from 1 to 60%. Both values decrease when calculated for pathways. The teaching materials have medium-high levels of accessibility (we can do better!). Ally, the Blackboard plugin installed on EduOpen, allows learners to download documents in alternative formats (braille, audio, html, ePub etc.) and you, EduOpen users, have done it: in the last 4 months for about 1200 times in 62 courses!
We also talked about IntelliBoard, an integrated system on EduOpen that allows to analyze data about navigation and engagement in the courses returning detailed reports that enable teachers to prepare appropriate training interventions.
Cineca's representatives presented the new system of integration between ESSE3 and EduOpen that will make more effective the procedure for issuing verified certificates and university credits.
The representatives of the EduOpen Institutions described the strategies of production of the MOOCs and the experiences of their universities that in different ways work on didactics and technologies.
EduOpen is part of the wider scenario of higher education. In his speech, Prof. Minerva showed us how this scenario is changing in our country and in the international context. The Italian university population has changed in recent years, in numbers and (almost certainly) also in training needs. In the international scenario of higher education, the use and interweaving of diversified teaching methodologies, both in the presence and online, are consolidating.
What role does our network play in this context?
EduOpen can and must be an active player in this evolving context, the actions of each Institution in the network can be a driver of change.
In what educational context will the students of the future learn and become capable professionals?
We must work to make this context the best possible.
