About the Course
In this course some scientific contributions, mathematical in particular, to the development of artistic techniques, with a focus on perspective. From a didactical point of view, the core of the course is composed by spatial geometrical transformations and to projections and sections, but it also includes concepts of elementary geometry that were crucial to study Optics and vision, in Euclid's works. Some techniques to build bidimensional perspective images in painting, sculpture and architecture will be shown, then a theoretical approach to the practical problems will be introduced that is useful to give more accuracy and generality to the methods. Once built up a solid and effective theory you can go beyond art, and you have in your hands a priceless cultural product, that is projective geometry. It is at the basis of computer vision, that is important in the design of software for artificial vision, with important application in technology, even in improving audio devices.{mlang}
